• The paper and board industries process around 6.6 million cubic metres of industrial roundwood (including bark) and 5.7 million cubic metres of sawmill by-products.
• Wood is the most important renewable energy source in Austria and is used, on the one hand, as firewood and briquettes in manually loaded and, on the other hand, as pellets, wood chips and bark in automatic combustion plants. Moreover, the lye from pulp production and other wood-based residues is energetically employed.
• Taking into account all energy wood products and raw material sources (including recycled wood, pruning waste, road maintenance material, vines, grinding dust, lye, etc.), the energy balance displays approximately 25.3 million cubic metre equivalent of wood-based energy use.
