The industrial heat requirement is responsible for about 28% of the overall end energy requirement in Europe; the heat requirement for rooms adds another 27%. Despite the energy efficiency having been improved all over Europe during the past decade, there is a great unexploited potential for reducing the thermal energy requirements of industrial and non-industrial users, by intelligently combining existing technologies.
The project’s objective was to prepare a wide implementation of energy management systems according to the standard EN 16001 (now: ISO 50001) in Austrian companies. Proposals for a certification system were also made and variations for political measures checked for wide-spread implementation.
